Commander Thomas Mark Taylor, O.B.E. (21 April, 1897 – ) served in the Royal Navy. He changed his name to "Mark Taylor" in 1933.[1]

Life & Career

Born in Cornwall, the son of surgeon Mark R. Taylor, Esq..[2]

Taylor entered the Training Establishment in January, 1910, and passed out as the war began in August, 1914, being appointed to the second class protected cruiser Minerva, in which he served until June, 1916. He was then appointed to Ithuriel, eventually, in October 1917 taking up instruction in submarines.[3]

Taylor was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1918, adjusted to 15 February, 1918. He served in submarines attached to Hebe and Dolphin. Late in 1918, he was definitely in D 7, his stint ending in late December. He spent some time baby sitting the interned U-boat Template:DE-U152.[4]

Taylor was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1926.[5]

Taylor was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1932.[6]

In 1935, he was sick on shore and admitted to King Edward VII Hospital, eventually to be operated upon.[7]

World War II

Taylor was suffering from exhaustion in 1941 and was placed on the Retired List on account of account of age 21 April, 1941.[8]

He would see further service, extending into 1954.
