Captain (retired) Walter Neville Lapage, O.B.E. (5 February, 1883 – 17 May, 1939) was an officer in the Royal Navy and served as H.M.S. Tiger's torpedo officer at the Battle of Jutland.

Life & Career

Lapage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1904.[1][2]

Appointed to H.M.S. Vernon as a Junior Staff Officer on 9 April, 1907.[3][4]

Lapage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1912.[5][6]

Lapage was appointed to Tiger as torpedo officer on 19 June, 1914.[7] He would fight in her at the Battle of Jutland.

Lapage was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1916.[8] In March 1917, he was assigned to special duties in Defensive Mining. In August, he was assigned to work on experiments in anti-submarine warfare at Portland. He commanded the vessel H.M.S. Sarepta there from 1 March 1918 to 4 April, 1919.[9]

Lapage was appointed to the battlecruiser Hood as Squadron Torpedo Officer on 4 March, 1919.[10]

Lapage finished his naval career with a stint in command of the torpedo training school Defiance. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request upon his relief, which occurred on 30 June, 1922.[11]

Lapage was promoted to the rank of Captain on 5 February, 1928.[12]
