Captain Walter Wilmot Sitwell, (9 November, 1899 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Sitwell was the son of H. W. Sitwell, Esq., a farmer and landowner from Stockton, West Rugby. Upon passing out of the Training Establishment in September 1915, he was appointed to the battlecruiser Inflexible.
He failed his gunnery and torpedo examinations in September 1917, but passed them in November.
He fought in Inflexible at the Battle of Jutland, and left her when he was appointed to the light cruiser Chatham on 21 January, 1918.
Sitwell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1920.
Sitwell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1928.
Sitwell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1934.
He was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 8 November, 1949, suffering from a duodenal ulcer.
He was granted the war service rank of Captain on 21 December, 1949.
In February 1953 he was hospitalized with an ulcer.
