Commander (retired) Owen Hugh Knox Maguire, D.S.O., R.N. (19 September, 1885 – 8 April, 1924) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Monkstown, County Dublin.[1]
In 1903, Maguire was thanked by the Commander-in-Chief for his gallant conduct in the drowning of Sub-Lieutenant Pearse.[2]
Maguire was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1908. Suffering from tuberculosis, he was placed on the Retired List as unfit on 11 July, 1910.[3]
Maguire was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1916.[4]
Maguire was promoted to the rank of Commander in recognition of his wartime service, dated 11 November, 1918. He reverted to the Retired List on 2 November 1919 and was granted permission to proceed to Algiers for six months. In 1920, he proceeded to Italy, intending to stay for eight months.[5]
