Admiral (Retired) SIR Geoffrey Alan Brooke Hawkins, K.B.E., C.B., M.V.O., D.S.C., R.N. (13 July, 1895 – 5 October, 1980)[1] served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Captain Herbert R. M. Hawkins of the Dorset Regiment passed out of the Training Establishment on 15 January, 1913 and was appointed to Natal of the Second Cruiser Squadron. He served in her until being appointed to the torpedo gunboat Gossamer on 30 July, 1915.[2]

Hawkins was appointed to Nicator on 5 April, 1916 as she was nearing completion, but left her on transfer to Sandfly on 7 May, 1916.

Hawkins was appointed to the minesweeper Holderness on 25 May, 1917 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1917. When Holderness paid off on 17 May, 1918, he was appointed temporarily as first officer in the Meynell.[3]

Hawkins was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 July, 1925.[4]

Hawkins was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1930.[5]

Hawkins was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1937.[6]

World War II

Hawkins was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 January, 1947.[7]

Hawkins was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 15 August, 1950.[8]

Hawkins was placed on the Retired List on 4 December, 1952 and promoted to the rank of Admiral on 22 October, 1953.[9]
