Commander R.N.R. William James Donohue, O.B.E., R.D., R.N.R. (27 October, 1878 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Donohue was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 5 July, 1913. During the war, he served in the pre-dreadnought battleships Canopus, Queen and Dominion.[1]

In 1916 he received the Admiralty's appreciation for navigating the collier North Wales through the Straits of Magellan.[2]

In 1917 he was noted for good service in the Dardanelles and he was placed in command of the T.B. 19 from 77 January 1917 to 6 April, 1918.[3]

Donohue was granted the rank of Acting Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 6 April, 1918 and placed on the books of Egmont at Malta for convoy duties. He was to retain this rank from some later date. He was demobilised on 4 September, 1919.[4]

Donohue was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 27 October, 1924.[5]
