Captain (Emergency List) Oswald Charles Merriman Barry, D.S.O. (24 February, 1871 – 4 December, 1923) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Barry possessed some talent for drawing, French and gymnastics. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1893.[1]
Barry resigned his commission on 26 March, 1902. It was restored on 8 April 1902 when he was placed on the Emergency List.[2]
Barry was promoted to the rank of Commander on 24 February, 1911.[3]
Barry would spend the Great War in Africa. After a brief stint in command of Rattler, he commanded a ship called Salamander which I cannot identify, from 4 June 1915 to May 1916. He was then made the Naval Officer in Charge, Zanzibar until 30 June 1918 when he was ordered to return to England.[4]
Barry was promoted to the rank of Captain on 11 November, 1918.[5]
Barry died at sea while on sick leave from Zanzibar.[6]
