Commander Rudolf Henry Cole Verner, Royal Navy (16 January, 1883 – 18 March, 1915) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.
Life & Career
Verner was promoted to Lieutenant on 31 August, 1903.[1]
On 10 August, 1909, he was appointed to Juno to serve as her first and gunnery officer on recommissioning. He was superseded in her on 11 September, 1910.
Verner was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on 31 August, 1911.[2]
Verner was appointed as gunnery officer in H.M.S. Inflexible on 23 May, 1912 and served in her at the Battle of the Falkland Islands. He recorded his thoughts on the practice of fire control during the battle.
Verner was promoted to Commander on 31 December, 1914 and reappointed in Inflexible on that same day.[3]
During her tour of duty in the Dardanelles, she was mined in the final naval assault on 18 March, 1915. Verner died of his wounds that same day.[4]
