Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. Alphonse Martin Tulloch (1 May, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Tulloch earned a First Class certificate in gunnery in late 1912 and followed it up with a Second Class torpedo certificate on 7 February, 1913. He served in Falmouth, St. Vincent, Stour before he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 12 February, 1914. He was finally appointed to the armoured cruiser Sutlej when the Great War broke out.[1]

On 15 December, 1917, Tulloch was appointed in command of the River Class destroyer Ettrick.

On 14 March 1918, Tulloch was mentioned in despatches.

Tulloch was removed from command of Ettrick following an unsatisfactory attack on a submarine while Senior Officer on a convoy's escort, possibly on 15 February, 1918. This failure have been what prompted Walter Burdge Compton's evaluation that Tulloch had served "to my sat[isfaction]: except on one occasion," and their Lordships meting out "severe displeasure." From April to October, 1918 Tulloch served as navigating officer in Venerable before being placed in command of the sweeping sloop Petunia on 30 September, 1918.[2]

Tulloch was demobilised on 22 May, 1919.

Tulloch was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 12 February, 1922.[3]
