Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Valentine Gordon Chester Shortridge, R.N. (5 August, 1893 – 19 June, 1923) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Thomas W. Shortridge, medical practioner.
Shortridge passed out of Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in April, 1910 ranked first of 77 cadets in marks on the Part I examination.[1]
Shortridge was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 January, 1914.[2]
Shortridge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1915.[3]
In December 1918, he was part of staff at the the Anti-Submarine Division.[4]
On 15 November 1920, he was appointed to the Portsmouth Mining School as Trial and Experimental Officer in A/S Instruments.[5]
He was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 18 September, 1922. Shortridge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 15 February, 1923 but soon died at Ashover Sanatorium of tuberculosis in mid-1923.
