Captain (retired) Percy Hughes Ridler, (7 June, 1886 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Holcombe, Bath, the son of H. J. Ridler, Esq.. He would enter Britannia from H.M.S. Worcester in July, 1902.[1]

Ridler was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1906.[2]

He was awarded the Goodenough Medal for 1907, being the Sub-Lieutenant who achieved the highest gunnery examination while also achieving a first-class certificate in seamanship.[3]

Ridler was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 December, 1914. Through the early part of the war, he seems to have been employed in gunnery training duties at Pembroke.[4]

He was appointed as gunnery officer in the pre-dreadnought battleship Dominion from 2 April, 1915 until being appointed to Neptune in the same capacity on 21 February, 1917. He served in her until being appointed as gunnery officer in the battleship Orion on 10 November, 1917.[5]

Ridler was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918 and continued to serve in Orion until being appointed to Devonport Gunnery School on 13 February, 1919.[6]

Ridler was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Captain on 7 June, 1936 and continued to serve in his present appointment as Secretary of the Ordnance Committee.[7]
