Commander (retired) Alan Westbury Preston, (11 July, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of H. W. Preston, Esq. was a Special Entry to the Training Establishment on 15 September, 1916.
Preston was appointed to the Emperor of India on 15 January, 1917. Re-appointed to her upon his promotion to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 June, 1918, Preston would leave her in September 1918 to attend a Torpedo Control course at Portsmouth. He was then appointed to Renard on 26 September, and would serve in her through the end of the war.[1]
Preston commanded an unspecified Motor Launch tendered to Cyclops from 20 March to 16 December, 1919.[2]
Preston was placed on the Retired List upon his relief on 16 June, 1922.[3]
Preston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1928.[4]
Preston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1937.[5]
World War II
Preston commanded the sloop Leith vice Hulton from approximately June 1943 to June, 1945.[6]
Preston was promoted to the rank of Commander on 3 September, 1945.[7]
