Admiral (retired) SIR Henry William Urquhart McCall, K.C.V.O., K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O. (11 June, 1895 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of retired coffee planter H. J. McCall, Esq. passed out of the Training Establishment on 15 January, 1913 and was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Hyacinth on the Cape of Good Hope Station, where he remained until 19 July, 1915.[1]
McCall was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1917.[2]
McCall was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1925.[3]
McCall was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1931.[4]
McCall was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1937.[5]
World War II
McCall commanded Dido vice Dangerfield from 22 September, 1940 to 1 February, 1943.[6]
McCall commanded Howe vice Shaw-Hamilton from 2 February, 1944 to 13 February, 1946, holding the acting rank of Commodore, First Class.[7]
McCall was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1946.[8]
McCall was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 May, 1950.[9]
McCall was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Admiral on 15 September, 1953.[10]
