Squadron Commander De Courcy Wyndor Plunkett Ireland, R.N. (18 January, 1885 – 21 February, 1916) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Clonmel.
Ireland was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 February, 1906.[1]
Ireland was appointed in command of the destroyer Havock on 1 February, 1910.[2]
Ireland was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 26 February, 1914.[3]
Ireland was promoted to the rank of Flight Commander on 1 July, 1914.[4]
Ireland was promoted to the rank of Squadron Commander on 27 May, 1915. In late September he was to be transferred from Yarmouth Air Station to Eastchurch Bombing Squadron.[5]
Ireland died at Kingsnorth alongside Wing Commander Neville Florian Usborne in a wartime experiment to launch a fighter plane from airship AP.1 as a defence against Zeppelin attacks.
