Commander Robert James Gardner, (13 September, 1900 – 18 September, 1966) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Gardner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1923.
Gardner's H 47 sank after being rammed by L 12 off the Pembrokeshire coast on 9 July, 1929. He was tried by a Court Martial on four charges. He was found guilty of not having manoeuvred his submarine to avoid or mitigate the handling of the other submarine, which was judged to be negligent. Gardner received a reprimand.[1]
Gardner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1931.
Gardner was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1937.
