Lieutenant-Commander James William Cottrell, R.N., Retired (24 May, 1872 – 30 August, 1947) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Cottrell was promoted to the rank of Gunner on 29 November, 1897.
Cottrell was promoted to the rank of Chief Gunner on 29 November, 1912.
Post-War
Cottrell was placed on the Retired List in the rank of Lieutenant on his relief in Hecla, the date being 29 November, 1921.
World War II
Cottrell worked as an armed guard on the books of Pembroke in 1939 and 1940.
Cottrell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 26 August, 1942.
Cottrell died of a prostate condition two years after the end of the war.
