Commander (retired) John Arthur Colwell, R.N. (26 September, 1855 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

He was appointed to command H.M.S. Imogene on 17 September, 1893. An "unsatisfactory state of affairs" was held to prevail aboard the ship and it was deemed that Colwell exhibited a "want of tact & 'savoir faire'", but also that his navigator, Constantine Henry Hughes-Onslow's letter to him was "most improper & insubordinate." Both officers were superseded in January, 1895.
