Commander (retired) Joseph Hamilton Rohrbacher, (18 September, 1858 – 26 September, 1939) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Mississippi,[1] Rohrbacher was appointed to the Naval Academy from Pennsylvania.[2]
He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1880.[3]
Rohrbacher was promoted to the rank of Ensign on 26 June, 1884, to the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.) on 7 March, 1893, and to the rank of Lieutenant on 6 December, 1896.[4]
During the Spanish-American War, he served as an Inspector of Steel in the Bureau of Ordnance.[5]
Rohrbacher next saw duty on the Training Ship Hartford from 2 October, 1899.[6]
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander on 7 November, 1902 [7] while once again on Inspection Duty for the Bureau of Ordnance.[8]
Rohrbacher was appointed commanding officer of the collier Abarenda from 7 May, 1904.[9]
He retired on 30 June, 1905 under Section 8 of the Act of 3 March, 1899,[10] being promoted to Commander (retired) that same day.[11]
Great War
Rohrbacher was recalled to active duty for Inspection Duty under the Bureau of Steam Engineering.[12]
Later Life
Rohrbacher lived in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, where he died 26 September, 1939.[13]
