Admiral Robert Grant Fraser, Royal Navy, Retired (24 July, 1858 – 18 October, 1920) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
In July, 1871, Fraser was ranked thirty-third in order of merit of thirty-five candidates accepted as Naval Cadets following the entrance examinations.[1]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 31 December, 1882.[2]
Fraser was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1895.[3]
Captain
For his service in China Fraser was promoted to the rank of Captain on 9 November, 1900.[4]
He assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Grafton in November 1904[5] before being appointed in command of the battleship Ramillies in March 1905, staying there until sometime in early 1906.[6] He was then appointed in command of the battleship Majestic in March.[7]
He was appointed to President on 1 October, 1907, for command of the South of Ireland Coast Guard District and as Flag Captain to the Senior Officer on the Coast of Ireland.[8]
Grant was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 30 November, 1909, vice Tudor,[9] and, in accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 21 February, 1910.[10] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 9 August, 1915.[11] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 January, 1919.[12]
