Captain (retired) Stanley Napier Blackburn, C.B.E, D.S.C. (5 September, 1894 – 22 January, 1950) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Blackburn's father, a surgeon, was deceased by the time he joined the Navy in May of 1907.[1]
Blackburn was appointed from the battleship Collingwood to the Laforey Class destroyer Linnet on 15 December, 1914. He would be awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for lifesaving at Harwich on 31 January 1916 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1916 while still in this appointment.[2]
Blackburn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 July, 1924.[3]
Blackburn was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1930.[4]
World War II
Blackburn was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain on 5 September, 1944.[5]
He reverted to the Retired List on 8 December, 1947. He died in early 1950 of a variety of ailments including cirrhosis of the liver.[6]
