Commander (retired) John Bertram Mitford, O.B.E., R.N. (6 June, 1899 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of B. G. Mitford, Esq., stockbroker.
In late 1917, he requested service in submarines. On 4 March 1918, he was appointed to Dolphin for instruction in the type. On 28 May, he was appointed to Ambrose to serve in submarines.[1]
Mitford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1920.[2]
Mitford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1928.[3]
Mitford had an incredibly long final appointment, to Dolphin for duty Class I with submariners and for draftign duty, vice Alexander, from 9 April, 1937 to 9 October, 1945.[4]
World War II
Mitford was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 6 June, 1944.[5]
