Commander (retired) Gaspard Patrick Hunter-Blair, (21 September, 1895 – 1 June, 1941) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Commander Edward Hunter-BLaie, R.N., retired.[1]
Hunter-Blair was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 March, 1918.[2]
Hunter-Blair was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 March, 1926.[3]
A 29 July, 1929 Court of Enquiry into the loss of an anchor from Peterel cleared Hunter-Blair of blame in the affair.[4]
He was sick on shore with influenza from 12 January to 22 January, 1937.[5]
World War II
Hunter-Blair was appointed to the light cruiser Calcutta on 24 August, 1939 and continued in this appointment after being placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 21 September, 1940. This would prove unfortunate, as he was killed when she was sunk in a bombing attack off Alexandria on 1 Jume, 1941.[6]
