Captain (retired) Charles Henry Champness, D.S.O., R.N. (30 August, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Portsmouth, the son of H. R. Champness, Esq., M.V.O.[?].

Champness was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1911.[1]

During the Great War, Champness served as Navigating Officer in Iphigenia and King Orry. In the final year of the war, he was providing navigation service in the flotilla leader Parker.[2]

Champness was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1919.[3]

Champness was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1925.[4]

Champness was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 1 June, 1935.[5]
