H.M.S. E 43 was one of fifty-seven "E" class submarines completed in Britain before and during the Great War.

Service

E 43 collided with E 36 on 19 January 1917 off Harwich. E 36 was lost with all hands, but E 43 was able to continue in service. Curiously, there is no mention of this accident in Allan Poland's Service Record. There has to be some chance that he was not in command, somehow, on the day.
