Captain (retired) John Bernard Bruce, R.N. (9 April, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Bruce passed out of the Training Establishment on 15 September, 1909 and received an appointment to serve in the battleship Dreadnought of the Home Fleet. He spent a year in the iconic warship and then was appointed to the armoured cruiser Defence for ten months.[1]
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 February, 1914. Upon hte outbreak of war, he was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Naiad. He was in the battlecruiser Tiger from 31 January to 15 September, 1915 and then joined the battlecruiser Inflexible. He was in her at the Battle of Jutland. In February 1918 he received an appointment that is very difficult to make out, but is perhaps to Hercules as Flag Lieutenant to V/A [illeg].[2]
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 28 February, 1922.[3]
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1927.[4]
Bruce was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain (retired) on 9 April, 1942.[5]
