H.M.S. Grenville was one of thirty-five "G","H" and "I" Class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy. As one of the three "leaders" built, she had an additional 4.7-in gun and a larger complement to accomodate the staff of the Captain (D) leading the formation.

Service

Commissioned 1 July, 1936 for service as the flagship of the First Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[4]
