Life & Career

Born in Hong Kong, Felton listed Commander Robert Neale Lawson as his guardian when he joined the Royal Navy in May 1912. He was passed out of the Training Establishment in August 1914 and appointed to the battleship Albion for 13 months, leaving Mudros for home in Aquitania on 18 September, 1915. He was suffering from enteric fever and was hospitalised at Haslar. His sickness was thorny, and he was not finally discharged until 28 March, 1916. Finally well, he was appointed to the battleship Orion on 29 March, and served in her at the Battle of Jutland. On 6 September 1917 he was appointed to the sweeping sloop Delphinium.[1]

On 22 July 1918 he was trained to serve in C.M.Bs.. In December, he would ask to end his time in the type, "in light of reduced amt of running reqd."[2]

Felton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1920.[3]
