Commander (retired) John Murray, R.N. (28 November, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy. He would become a fluent speaker of Italian.
Life & Career
The son of John R. Murray, Esq., the manager of London House Merchant [illeg].
Appointed to Shannon of the Second Cruiser Squadron on 15 May, 1911, Captain Baird was not impressed, describing Murray as "slow & weak but taken interest." He left the ship to take course in January, 1914 and on 6 May was appointed to the light cruiser Chatham.
Murray was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1916.
Post-War
Murray was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1924.
Murray was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Commander on 28 November, 1938.
World War II
Reverted 25 October, 1945.
