Captain (retired) Philip Hordern, R.N. (22 October, 1885 – 26 April, 1950) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Rangoon the son of a man retired after a career in the Indian Civil Service.
Hordern was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1906.
Hordern was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1914. He was appointed to Canopus as gunnery officer for the Test Mobilisation and remained in this role until she paid off on 5 May, 1916. After some time at Excellent, he was appointed to Caledon to be her gunnery officer upon her commissioning.
Hordern switched to Cardiff as gunnery officer in June 1917.
On 15 April, 1918, Hordern was appointed to the battlecruiser Inflexible, though not as her gunnery officer.
Post-War
Hordern was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1919.
Hordern was placed on the Retitred List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 2 November, 1931.
