Lieutenant-Commander Alan Kerr McClintock Halliley, D.S.O., R.N. (19 August, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Halliley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1912.
On 11 April, 1919, Halliley was appointed in command of the minesweeper H.M.S. Sword Dance. She was lost to a mine in the Dvina River on 24 June 1919. The ADmiralty absolved Halliely of any blame in the loss.
Halliley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander with seniority of 30 June 1920.
On 18 January, 1922, Halliley was Court Martialed for being absent from his ship. He was dismissed Curlew and sent back to England in Cyclops.
Almost incredibly, Halliley was again Court Martialed on 30 April 1923 on a charge of being absent without leave. He pleaded guilty and had to forfeit a year's seniority, was dismissed the ship, and was severely reprimanded. It is not clear what his appointment was at this time.
Halliley was placed on the Retired List under misconduct in accordance with the provisions of Order in Council of 15 June, 1901. A step in rank was refused in 1929, but he would have a chance to redeem himself.
World War II
Deliciously, Halliley was appointed on 8 July 1940 to Spartiate, additional, "for C.M. duties, Clyde."
