Rear-Admiral William Leslie Elder, C.M.G., R.N., Retired (26 June, 1874 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Elder was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1896.
Elder was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1907.[1]
Elder was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 116 on 24 August, 1909, also for Command of Flotilla.[2]
Elder was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1914.
Elder was promoted to the rank of Wing Commander 6 March, 1915.
On 14 June, 1916, Elder was appointed in command of Number 3 Aero Wing, and was promoted to the rank of Acting Wing Captain on 30 June, 1916.
Elder was promoted to the rank of Wing Captain on 31 December, 1916 and remained in command of the Aero Wing until September 1917 despite being appointed to the armed merchant cruiser Morea in June.
Post-War
Elder paid off Morea on 17 January, 1919.
Elder was appointed in command of the light cruiser Dublin in August, 1921.
Elder was placed on the Retired List upon the expiration of his foreign service leave on 5 January, 1923. He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral (retired) on 1 July, 1925.
